Recipe Book Cover

Hi everyone, today I have a fun project I have been going to do for ages, a recipe book.  I am an avid cook especially baking, and I have to say a little OCD with storage of my recipes.  I have all my books coded and with page references so I do not have to spend hours researching and hunting for something interesting to cook.  I even type up all my recipes and print on coloured paper according to what type of cooking it is, I told you OCD.  

I wanted to make a cover that was totally me.  All the pages inside are done with plastic so I just remove the page I want, cook, and then put it back safely, no marks allowed.  The first two photos are from my ladies Afternoon tea party I held a few months ago.  

 So now you see how over the top I am with my cooking, here is my book cover.

This is the cover of the book, I have used a Twiddleybitz original recipe label, and I just added distress stain to add some colour.  It did have a chicken on it, but that wasn't really me, so off came the chicken.
I also used a couple of black nero corners, a butterfly and a chipboard heart, all Twiddleybitz of course.

Card - thinking of you

Hi everyone Jo here for Artfull Crafts, with a a card using Curiosity paper from Kaisercraft.

This is the cards envelope, you can see the front of the card tucked inside it. 

This photo has the card, out of the envelope, and as you can see there is another card in the front of the main one. 

 

 

This has the third part of the card in the front, and for some reason I didn't photograph the inside of the small card, it has the same picture again with flowers growing inside the jar, as in the page shown here called unusual, the bottom row, 2nd one across.

Curiosity from Kaisercraft

Hi everyone, Jo here with a couple of layouts for Artfull Crafts using Curiosity from Kaisercraft. 
I was lucky enough to make the top 20 in the Kaisercraft design team applications, and we were sent this range of papers to make a couple of projects.  I didn't make the final cut, but the top 20 was pretty good and I was very pleased to get that far. 

We didn't get anything else just the paper, so I had to get a little creative. I am used to layering and building up, so it was difficult not to do what I would normally do and just add anything I wanted. I also didn't have a lot of embellishments or anything of theirs that would work with this range of papers, and we weren't allowed to use anyone else's products of course.     

I thought this range had a lot of potential and I was quite excited to have a play with it.  My first layout was really based around all the little words on one of the strips along the bottom of the page, there was so many words, I was thinking how I could use them all, and make it look interesting. 

There was quite a bit of cutting involved in this, all the words, the butterflies, the leaves and the flowers.  I was very patient cutting them all slowly and then inking them all, not however as patient as I had to be to make the string rings, a lot harder than I first thought.  Once I got the knack of it, I was away.  I liked the simplicity of this layout, and I didn't have many orange flowers so it was a good way to get texture with out a large expense.

The 2nd layout using the same range, was quite different, in that I used the same photo in three sizes.  This however was not planned, it was simply me mucking up when copying the photo, but I liked the result and so I decided to have a play with them, and this is what I came up with.  I stencilled the Kaisercraft clock in the top using white paint, and then layered up all the different elements.   There was a lot of cutting out involved in this as well, the flowers, and birds and well everything really. 

So curiosity from Kasiercraft, a stunning range, lots of cool elements.  Of course if you don't like all the cutting, get yourself the collectables pack and it is all done for you. 

This is my 3rd to last post, tomorrow I will have a really cool card I made using this range as well.

Scrapbooking page - dad love you for all time TJ

Hi everyone, I have been busy as usual with a new Twiddleybitz project, today I have used this fantastic Xmas border corner, but in a non Christmas way.  My father n law (BJ) and his youngest son Terry (TJ) are this weeks subjects. 

I painted the corner silver, and then adhered down, I added the clock and the record under the music notes part of the flousih.  I put some cotton fabric down and made the edges shabby.  Then I added the photo.  I then played around with different layers, and added the text using different lettering styles.   I found these little red wine bottles and glasses that I left in the surrounding packaging chipboard and I made a little flag from that.  I used crackle on the clocks both the chipboard and the paper ones.

 

 

I used some flattish flowers from Prima and a few leaves and spirals to add some colour as it was a little flat.

Off the page project - Mirror Mirror on the wall

Hi everyone, today is a challenge set by Scotties Crafts in Auckland, New Zealand. 

We were offered a free gift if we went to the Scotties crafts stand wearing pink. which I had a pink apron on, So that meant a free gift, with a catch though.

I got this adorable (not) pink princess photo doll, and we had to make her into a piece of art.  So first up a coat of gesso, to get rid of the whole pink thing.  Then it was a matter of deciding who this princess wanted to be.  After a bit of research I decided she was Regina from "Once upon a time - the evil queen". 

With a bit of pleating and major stress with her hair, and then some fantastic Twiddleybitz, I made her outfit.  I pleated graphic 45 paper, and made this coat, and vest, and then hard to see tissue shirt.  A ruffled collar, to help with the image.  I painted the crown and added purple bling.  The hair, what a nightmare, thanks to a friend who sat patiently while I tried to make a bun without pulling all the hair off the polystyrene head (a cheap doll from the $2.00 shop lost her hair). 

I added the mirror in her hand, unfortunately it doesn't show up as well as I would like, the poisoned apple, had to be here as well. 

The mirror, that I made, was interesting, and I wasn't really sure how it was going to turn out, but I was glad about the final result.  Though it took three days to dry in this weather. 

I wanted to make a crown for the top of the whole project, so I made this Mirror Mirror on the the wall sign using upside down banners. 

The inside of the project, started to all come together, with this painted wall, the cauldron with Graphic 45 stickers, and some film strip washi tape.

 

So here is my entry for the competition, it was an interesting challenge, and really made me put my thinking cap on.  

 

Off the page - Storage Chest

Hi everyone, Jo here with a new blog for Artfull Crafts in Timaru, it is just about the end of my stint with them, and I must admit it has been fun meeting a whole group of new people.  I have seen photos of people on our Face book group, and obviously we comment on each others work, but it is so much fun meeting them in person. 

Today's project is a Kaisercraft Shadow Box, but I thought lets try something a little different.  What can I do that is going to make this pop? so I made it up, and then sat and looked at it for a month.  It just wasn't happening, yes I could cover it with paper, yes I could make the shadow boxes have something inside them, but then after working on a recipe book, I thought, why don't I make a shelf full of mini books.

But then I was hunting through my room, collecting bits and pieces, and I found this earring I purchased for the $2.00 shop, and then I put it up against the box and then I was off, goodbye mini books hello top shelf.

There is black paper inside of the unit, I tried just spraying it, but it wasn't dark enough, and I wasn't painting it this time.  After I put the paper inside, I sprayed with black glimmer mist to give a distressed sort of look.

 The two drawers have ribbon, flowers and Tim Holtz sayings on them.  

 

The butterfly added a touch of whimsy and of course a key.

 

The top started off with the big black earring at the back, then i built it up from there.  

This ended up being hard to photograph as a whole piece, but I think you get the idea.

The paper is a Kaisercraft 75 cents .  The sides were also covered, and then sprayed and distressed.  

Kaisercraft flowers were added to give some more dimension to the project.  

What is going inside the shelves? I have no idea, but something will find its way in to here.   

  

 

 

 


  

Scrapbooking page - Best of mates

Hi everyone, and what a busy couple of weeks.  My daughters 19th Birthday party ended what has been a crazy month for me.  I have been busy working on so many projects that I have ended up missing a couple of deadlines, but never mind can't be perfect all the time, no time for playing otherwise.

 

Today I have a page for Twiddleybitz that I really love.  We had to use the mini houses in July, which was heaps of fun, but of course I decided to cut mine up and make a layout using one that I had leftover from the castle picture.   

 

 

I love this layout, I think the paper from Prima is stunning, It is called engraver, and of course the Twiddleybitz chipboard is always fantastic to use.  I wanted to do a page with my nephew and my daughter in it that wasn't to flowery and pretty but still had some dimension, so I sneaked a few flowers on to the page.

The chipboard nero corner is always a great piece to start with, as well as a few dimensional butterflies and of course the little house on the left hand side of the page.

Twiddleybitz have been doing some amazing new chipboard pieces,  I am so excited to get my hands playing with a few of the pieces, hopefully in the next day or so, check them out here at http://www.twiddleybitz.com  Enjoy the week everyone.
