Newsletter and design team creations with tags.

Hi all the first part of this post is my current newsletter, but if you have already read it, then check out the design team blog further below.

Hi all,

This was a very productive week, we started it with a massive leak, which then got worse when the landlord cleaned the windows in the roof while he was up there, and water came pouring into the shop and down the light fittings.  That was not the way to start my week, but it ended with a lovely bunch of ladies, telling me how wonderful it was that we were back and open again,  so it ended better than it started.

We have had lots of new and different stock coming in, and I was going to tell you all about the new mediums, but I SOLD it all, so I will get some more and then give you a head ups about it.  Below is a picture of the latest embellishments including resin frames, little tiny rabbits and birds in

A lot of people are asking me what we stock, if it is not on the website just email me, find out  if we can get it, and how much or if there are other options.  I am always telling people to watch out as there are a lot of products that are the same thing just with different names.  So if there is a [product that you have heard of and want to know more, send me an email and I will tell you what I know.

For example Gesso..It was originally an artists product, it is used traditionally to add a cover over canvas or other products, to stop the paint from soaking in. Gesso is a white paint mixture consisting of a binder mixed with chalk, gypsum, pigment, or any combination of these. We use it to add tooth to something as well now,  so if you have chipboard and  you don't want your paint or sprays soaking into the chipboard, put a layer of gesso over it, and it works a little bit like a sealer and the colour will be so much better, and you will use less of it.

We now stock black gesso $9.50 and white gesso $9.50.
We also stock whipped spackle $12.50 which is relatively new on the market is actually just a gesso, but it is very light, a lot less liquid in it, so it dries extremely quickly.   It is also very very light, so you can use it on your pages, to add dimension through stencils and with a palette knife, dry it off and work on it straight away.

The cheaper gesso that you buy the thinner  it tends to be, so watch what you are buying and where from.
The thinner it is, the less chalk it has in it, and over time it will not hold together, and if you have done an art piece, and it starts to crack and fall apart, that could be why.  Cheap canvas that comes with gesso, probably has to be re done. SPA Retreat

I was feeling like giving the design team a challenge

Hi all,

I was feeling a little like being mean and giving the girls a real challenge the other week, and sent the design team some frames left over after cutting all the kits for Senz, and I sent them to the girls and said Surprise me.  I was also meant to compete however I failed, I just didn't have time or the energy after being sick to come up with anything.
So I am leaving it to the girls this week.

So what have they been up to? Click on the link and follow the blog hop and see what they did.  Leave a comment on Imagine If face book or on here and tell me what you think.  Instead of you being in the running for a prize I thought maybe the design team member with the most comments will get the prize this time... I didn't tell them that part.  So help your favourite designer this week win something very cool....just comment.

Esther Salisbury won our draw a few weeks ago for the quote sheets for commenting.

Class list for the rest of the year

Hi to everyone, and I know.... finally a class list.
Here we are in to September and I cannot believe how far along the year is already.  Welcome to all the new people that have joined us on our newsletter and face book.  Opening week went really well, and except for a flooding in the shop on Monday (yes it did) two buckets later... 6 towels (thanks Mother n law) we had it under control,  not fixed but not going on the floor either.

Just when I though I was on top of all the jobs along came a nice little bug, and tried to lay me flat.  Typical isn't it..one day fine, the next in front of TV watching back to back episodes of Criminal minds and CSI, with a little of The Block thrown in for a change of pace, husband cooked, healthy nutritious fish n chips so no wonder a week later I am still sick, no chicken soup in sight.

Thanks to everyone who has come to see us in the new shop, it has been really fun catching up with everyone.   We have had a practice run at classes in there with some friends, and all went well.  Those who have checked out the classroom, all agree it is a great area.  Being out the back it means you can bring your slippers and really chill out and no one will see.    The mens area now has fishing and car magazines, so no excuses for them to be bored.  Although the last male that sat there, read the Woman's day magazine so I am really not sure that my choice of male magazines is right, there has been some other suggestions made, which I have chosen not to go ahead with. I am sure you know what I mean.

the eft pos is nearly sorted just waiting on the machine to arrive.  Yeah finally.

Stock
We have received lots of new release papers in and more heading our way, Paper arts is in, and the rest any day.  Kaisercraft is on its way as well.
Best product in this week! Easy as for me, white sharpies, yes white.  They are amazing pens and are $5.50 each, great for mixed media canvas work, and for writing on black paper perfect, not boring, not dull, in your face WHITE love them.

Just arrived today all the mini bows that we sold at the quilt and craft show in record time, these are back in again, not loaded yet, but very soon.    they come in lots of colours, the Christmas pack is very cute.

Class Lists:
Normally classes will have pictures but I will add them as soon as I can.  Scrapbooking classes you can normally choose your own papers and colours unless advised.    I have tutors still being sorted, unfortunately we have not been able to confirm as much as i would have liked by now, but we are getting there.  We will also have a night crop, that will be 7pm until midnight, date to be advised soon.

The photographer is keen, that will be a hands on class learning to get your camera from automatic to manual.

All ready to go tomorrow!

Hi to everyone,

I cannot believe how fast this month has gone, from a wreck of a building we are now ready to open Wednesday, and except for 4 holes in the ceiling of the hallway we are looking pretty good.

Facebook: if you have been following us on face book, you may have seen this post.

So those days when hubby brings you shopping, he can sit here, chill out, and I will replace the magazines with boys ones. he can even get a coffee or pop across the road to the council cafe have a beer, and watch the sports. So no need to panic now when hubby comes with you to the craft shop, we will distract him while you shop in peace.

This post caused me so much problems on facebook, it seems my husband now thinks that when ever I am in the craft shop he is allowed to go over to the cafe and have a beer!  because that is what my post said.  Hmmmmm must re word posts in future.

The signs went up on Monday , the classroom Is ready, see picture below

as you can see there is plenty of room for all the classes planned.

Painted, Carpeted, and Tables are in!

Hi everyone,
Hi everyone, and what another beautiful morning here in the Waikato, not that I have been outside to see it this last week.  After finishing at the show, it was straight into painting and decorating our new space.

The Quilt and craft show was very very successful for us, and I am really pleased we went, though to be honest 5 days of the show is hard work, but there is a lot of fun, and a great chance to meet lots of new people.

The shop
The classroom is completed, and the manufacturing area is all set up, except for a tiny glitch one of my screens no longer works...bound to be something basic she says hopefully. There is a hint of purple around the place, and thanks to the boys yesterday everything is now at the shop ready to be put into place, the slatwalls are up, and the stands are in place.

Though I do have to tell you the funniest thing was after Aly had put these white paper stands together, which are a little flimsy while you get them together, we decided we needed to put some carpet under them, so rather than pull them apart and start again, we three generations of highly intelligent ladies decided to just lift them up and slip a piece of carpet under.  Well that seemed logical to us, how hard can it be.  Yes you got it!  This was not a simple task, in fact it was downright hard.  The shelves came apart, the carpet wouldn't slide, then it was to long and we had to try and cut it in place, and we just didn't think this through.  So imagine the view from behind, as three of us, all leaning over each other grunting and maybe a little cursing trying to get the carpet into place.  My dad would always say there is an easy way and a hard way to do things, that was the hard way.

I do need to say thank you to my husband Rick, daughter Aly, her boyfriend Jason, Mum, for helping us yesterday get sorted.  Also to some of my other friends for helping out.  So here is a little push for their businesses.
Russell -  Morrinsville Auto Trim - for all your upholstery requirements
Morrinsville Auto Trim & Upholsterers
Upholstery & Supplies

The next two businesses are right beside me on Canada street.
Phil - Revision Marketing - for all your corporate and sports t-shirts etc  http://www.revisionmarketing.co.nz/
Jo - Prepare  - for all your emergency kits  http://www.prepare.co.nz/

Right what you really want to know is when!

Wednesday 27th August 10am we open.

The shop hours will be sent to you next week, and also with a small advanced rough class list.

So at the Quilt and craft show I was working on a canvas in my Demo time, it was quite hard to do as I had to complete all the processes twice a day, and work only on a small piece of the canvas all the time.  Though I think it is pretty good, I will be adding a few more flowers when I find them, because they are in storage boxes at present.

I have used Stencils - circles and words,  Chipboard - branches, words, swirls.  I also used Gel Medium, Modelling paste, Gesso, Lindy Stamp Gang sprays and Dylusions Sprays, buttons, and flowers, and some metal butterflies and filigree shapes.   I will put this up in the shop when i finish it off.  This will be a class late September.

Our new premises are 25a Canada Street, Morrinsville. If you decide to go and have a peek, we are NOT there yet. Not until mid August, and we will send you an email to say we are open. We are opposite the Council cafe, right between Prepare & Revision Marketing and Triple Jump. Also if you go for a peek you might wonder how on earth are we going to fit in there! Don't worry we have a huge space out the back, that is just the main entrance. We will have class room space, and lots of lots of very cool products. I will send an email out soon with all of the details including days open and times, and also what we will be stocking. Just as soon as we have some idea of opening dates, we have not got into the premises to start painting, and sorting, but will be in next weekend.

Which speaking of next weekend is the Quilt and Craft Fair in Hamilton, and yes I know I shouldn't have, cause I am crazy busy trying to catch up from SENZ but I have signed up to have a stand at this show. We will have Paper-Arts paper, washi tape, mixed media, our quote sheets, MDF items, and our chipboard. So if you are coming to the show, come and check us out B17 (I think that was a bomber plane - hope that is a good sign) If you cannot make that is okay we will have it all at the new shop.
